Bodegas Cruz Conde
Cruz Conde was founded in 1902 by Mr. Rafael Cruz Conde, an army commander, in order to produce, age and commercialize the best wines from the Montilla-Moriles area. His winemaking business grew to become one of the most important wineries of the region. In 1925 the company became an official supplier of Alfonso XIII and the royal family.
The vineyards are mainly formed by the grapevine "Pedro Ximenez", which represents 90% of the grapes production in the DO area. Thanks to high temperatures and dry environment in this region, the grapes present a high content in sugars and as a consequence, a natural alcoholic degree (up to 14.5º after the fermentation) which enable the production of fine and delicate wines.
Nowadays Cruz Conde occupies a 14,000 m² surface and holds around 8000 barrels of wines. One of the most unique aspects of this bodega is its subterranean wine cellar (which was excavated by hand in the 1930’s) El Sotano, and comprises of 6 vaulted naves.
